See how clean the fish tank’s water is in the picture? Do you know what keeps the water so clean?  It’s the filter (the black item) in a fish tank, which filters the water and keeps the water clean.  So just like the fish tank’s filter, the liver is the primary organ that detoxifies our bodies by metabolizing everything that comes into our bodies, whether it’s through breathing, eating, or even absorbing through the skin.

The reason I stressed the importance of drinking water in my two latest articles is that drinking water is the simplest way to detox your body especially since the body is made up of 60-70% water.  Detox is the process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances, which is also called detoxification.

We eat three meals a day and snack in between our meals.  And since shelter in place, we’ve been indulging in not one but sometimes two desserts a day.  In addition, we may be taking nutritional supplements and for some even medications.  As we all know, the food we eat especially packaged food, contains additives such as food coloring, artificial sweeteners, and preservatives that we can’t even pronounce.  Lately in California, we’ve been having those wildfires.  So it doesn’t help that we also breath in toxins and chemicals.  We go swimming and our skin absorbs the chlorine or we apply make-up or sunscreen on our skin.  Imagine, how much toxins enter our bodies and if not broken down to non-toxic form or taken out, toxins can clog up the liver and may cause some damage to our bodies.  Just like when the filter in the fish tank gets clogged up and the fish tank starts to grow algae, so does our liver, which can also get clogged up and not work as efficiently in clearing out toxins.  That’s when our bodies start to breakdown and manifest symptoms.

The next time you smell smoke in the air, eat a packaged food, or apply anything on your skin, think about what’s going into your body and how you can decrease the amount of toxins entering your body.
