Here’s a list of possible detoxication options.  No one detox is better than the other.  It all depends on the goal you want to achieve.

  1. If you want to do a more gentle and general detox such that you want to do a cleanse after indulging over holiday feasts from Thanksgiving, Christmas, to New Year’s Day, then a nice get away to a spa would ultimately be relaxing and yet rejuvenating.  My girlfriends and I would make a girls night out at the Watercourse Way in Palo Alto for a hot/cold plunge and relax in a steam room.  Or we would make it into a girls weekend at the Refuge in Carmel, which also includes dry sauna.
  2. What I also like to do in addition to the spa is to do a hybrid detox. Once a quarter, I would eat one regular meal during dinner and take a detox shake and supplements for breakfast and lunch.  The Vita Balance shake can gently detox the liver while boosting the immune system and supporting the gastrointestinal system.  Detox supplements can consists of detoxifying herbs and even nutrients to support the liver.  If you want to completely give your digestion a break, then skip that one meal/day and only take the detox shake and supplements.
  3. I would suggest an intermittent fasting when one feels sluggish with some recent added weight as long one doesn’t get lightheaded throughout the day or feel hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), which can bring on jitteriness or even anxiety. Intermittent fasting can go for 16-18 hours so essentially skipping breakfast.
  4. Food elimination is suggested when one is going through various symptoms from eczema to any GI complaints like belching, bloating, passing gas, cramps, etc. This one requires a bit of will as elimination of one item isn’t as easy, as one may realize the one thing required to avoid is in almost everything!
  5. Heavy metal detox is one detox I leave as my last resort as this one entails list of supplements to chelate (binds) the heavy metals while supporting the body to not become malnourish. Chelation will not be able to differentiate from an essential mineral vs. heavy metal.  It will not only bind to toxic metals but also to minerals that the body needs.  One may benefit from heavy metal detox when there are unresolved issues or conditions that just don’t respond to other treatments.  Heavy metal detox can successfully treat patients with ADD/ADHD, mind fog/candida like symptoms, unexplained neurological issues, pain, etc.

These are just a few detoxification methods.  Once you start searching, there are plethora ways to cleanse.  Detox doesn’t necessary start after the holidays.  You may even do one before the Thanksgiving feast to prep your body to better process all your indulgences!
